Saturday, under judge Lesley Hiltz, was especially exciting because Mellon had placed 2nd in a huge Hound group!<br /><br />Lola too had a successful weekend, picking up 3 more points towards her Championship. She now has a total 6 points.<br /><br />Lori Evans of XO Pharaohs, joined us this weekend with <span style="font-weight: bold;">Mooi (XO Ethos JC)</span> who also picked up 4 points towards her Canadian Championship!! My mother, myself and mentor Cheryl Pike all attended to this trip. Our fun adventure started off with a little joke to all three of us- our pilots name was Hashish. Our 7 hour flight to Brussels, Belgium was going smooth until I had a sudden case of food poisoning in the last hour of the flight! The aircraft had no “sick bags” in front of the seat, so it was up to me to make the best of what I was dealing with. Thankfully, I have a wonderful Mother who put up with all my sickness on her. When we arrived in Belgium, it was a relief- just because there were washrooms for me to go to! After the security check, I needed to lay down. Every 10 minutes I needed to run to the restroom to be sick. I was in so much pain, and at that point I just wanted to go home. If anyone else has had a bad case of food poisoning, they would know exactly how I felt. I could not eat, or drink or else I immediately would be sick. My last scene of sickness was on the flight to Birmingham from Belgium. The flight crew was notified about my sickness and gave us many bags and even motion sickness drugs. They were great! The following two days were for resting and healing for the big competition on the Sunday. </span> <p><span style="font-size:100%;"> Cruft’s is like no other dog show I have seen. There was so many dog activities, shows, and shopping! The majority of our time there was spent shopping, but I was able to watch some breeds of choice. On Saturday night after the Groups were done, all the Juniors competing in the IJH competition were gathered in the Best In Show Arena to have a rehearsal for Sunday’s BIS parade and final judging. Sunday was a busy day! At 8 am we walked over to Hall 5 in the event centre to meet with our main dog that we will be showing. Nobody knew which breed they were getting since we were told to chose 2 different breeds. I was lucky enough to be provided with a beautiful Dandie Dinmont Terrier named Sparky. Sparky and I bonded quickly and showed like a dream. The reason why I had chosen a Dandie Dinmont Terrier was because I wanted to show a rare breed, and my original breed. I wanted my last Junior Handling competition to be with the same breed that I competed with my first competition with. My switch breed was a 9 year old Weimaraner.</span></p><span style="font-size:100%;"> The judge for the IJH competition was Mr. Ove Germundsson from Sweden. Although I did not make the Top 8, I showed my heart out and had fun. I made many new friends from all over the world, who I probably will see again in the future. The experience was definitely a <span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">dream come true.</span></span><br /><br /><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-size:85%;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB693Ytwb_nTC_qwDnboRFy8JqkQX6Nv6algII3BmlXw0W8QXlBjRCV3Ricz0PEiHFFF0U2bhGeKfuCOQlm-VDGneHfFt4qt2jGPb1wknvkT_Mj09ahJ6mnLHdgaqoWxqLBDSVfQXspmc/s1600/Crufts.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB693Ytwb_nTC_qwDnboRFy8JqkQX6Nv6algII3BmlXw0W8QXlBjRCV3Ricz0PEiHFFF0U2bhGeKfuCOQlm-VDGneHfFt4qt2jGPb1wknvkT_Mj09ahJ6mnLHdgaqoWxqLBDSVfQXspmc/s400/Crufts.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5470224595871676194" border="0" /></a></span></span></span>Brittany Carellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11686680339633144418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1608231298975878348.post-64180428858798938372009-12-27T19:59:00.000-08:002010-01-01T20:05:44.691-08:00Canada's Top Junior HandlerWell it has been a while since I last blogged. College began in September and therefore the dog shows have been slowing down for me. On October 17th 2009, I turned 18- which means I am now aged out of competing in Junior Handling. It has been an amazing 6 years showing in Juniors. With many ups and downs of course, but the knowledge I have gained from handlers, breeders and mentors is endless and I will be forever grateful.<br /><div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div> </div><div> </div><div>On October 11th 2009, I had won my Regional/Zone Junior Finals (Zone 4A) showing my puppy Lola, Osiris She's A Showgirl. In Best Overall all the juniors were required to switch breeds, a Scottish Terrier was my switch breed. It was great to win my Zone Finals again for the second year in a row. The judges had nothing but wonderful comments towards me- especially how I handled the Scottie on the switch! Thank you judges, David Swartwood, Edgar Rojas, Shirley Bell & Ward Bailey.<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 255px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5420135804380687186" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq3mPNs6I6ka_ceP3gT5oATPE67-conm6aejHUePHpT86sLAOrs4rkf-520wdjgDS4vofQwFSfvuwSN2SOazmqtpmwWEzzpXhfRY1jV6T9tieIF5L1JY2Dn41kx0PDjC5wOZyKGxFzXXg/s320/zones.jpg" /></div><br /><div></div><br /><div>The path did not stop there. On December 5th 2009, I competed at the Canadian Junior Handling Nationals competition. The winner of this competition competes at Crufts the following year to represent Canada at the World Finals. It is every junior handlers dream to win the Nationals. This year I had won Best Overall showing <strong>Brodie, Am/Can Ch. XO's Invincible</strong>. There was 14 competitors all across Canada that were the top in their province/zone. It was an incredible win!!! I never thought I would win Nationals showing my own Pharaoh Hound- it just doesn't happen! We were required to switch breeds at this competition as well, a Shetland Sheepdog was my switch breed. We were also required to answer questions about dog shows and canine anatomy. Thank you judges, <strong>Graeme Burdon, Lori-Ann Fischer, Pat Blenkey & Irene Latchford</strong> for this unforgettable win! </div><br /><br /><div></div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 253px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5420135025904068402" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggHai_cexhFGmwhywMz9moH5tud7Oqvyi7OaTEwyKH1W65dAIQ92Bz82JYFg2vGRzm27weRrvYFo2BYR4eWp0UCPVAsAfN5jK-seF-7SRP2zCPHYg_87T-ZaVkiUBGiMog08kZeinxB_c/s320/BJHNATIONALS.jpg" /><br /><div>Now it is off to Crufts in 2010. What a wonderful way to end a Junior Handling career- representing your country at the World Junior Finals.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>* None of this would be possible without the guidance and mentorship of Cheryl Pike, MacLaren Shelties (<a href="http://www.maclarenshelties.com/">http://www.maclarenshelties.com/</a>). Thank you Cheryl for everything.</div></div>Brittany Carellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11686680339633144418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1608231298975878348.post-22133679166268777062009-09-02T13:02:00.000-07:002009-09-02T13:19:43.506-07:00Cape BretonMy mom and I flew out to Saint John, New Brunswick last Thursday and stayed with our good friends, the Kearleys. We left for our 6 hour drive early Friday morning to Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.<br /><br />Sushi (<em>BPISS MBPIG Ch. Osiris Making Headlines</em>) won<strong> Best Puppy In Group</strong> all 4 shows. Thank you to judges, Paula & Roger Hartinger, Maida Puterman & Jackie Rusby. Despite Sushi not feeling well, she took the flight and everything else quite well! Sushi was handled by myself and by Terri-Lee Foley Cossar.<br /><br />I had shown in Junior Handling both days. First day I showed a Shetland Sheepdog handled by Todd & Allison Foley named Alex (<em>MBIS Am/Can Ch. Shelhaven Alaris</em>) and the second day I showed an English Setter named Jagger (<em>Am/Can Ch. Wingset's Jumpin' Jack Flash</em>) owned by Tory Harvey! I had such a great time showing both dogs. I was also able to show Jagger in the breed and group on the last day. He is such a great dog!<br /><br />We had such a great time in Nova Scotia. Met many new people and made many new friendships. Thanks so much to Terri Lee, for taking Sushi in the ring! She did a fabulous job as always.<br /><br />Im sure I will be back soon. The weather was awful, and the show grounds were covered in puddles and mud. It wasn't too hot and there was always wind. Sushi (<em>BPISS MBPIG</em> <em>Ch.
