Canada's Top Junior Handler

Well it has been a while since I last blogged. College began in September and therefore the dog shows have been slowing down for me. On October 17th 2009, I turned 18- which means I am now aged out of competing in Junior Handling. It has been an amazing 6 years showing in Juniors. With many ups and downs of course, but the knowledge I have gained from handlers, breeders and mentors is endless and I will be forever grateful.
On October 11th 2009, I had won my Regional/Zone Junior Finals (Zone 4A) showing my puppy Lola, Osiris She's A Showgirl. In Best Overall all the juniors were required to switch breeds, a Scottish Terrier was my switch breed. It was great to win my Zone Finals again for the second year in a row. The judges had nothing but wonderful comments towards me- especially how I handled the Scottie on the switch! Thank you judges, David Swartwood, Edgar Rojas, Shirley Bell & Ward Bailey.

The path did not stop there. On December 5th 2009, I competed at the Canadian Junior Handling Nationals competition. The winner of this competition competes at Crufts the following year to represent Canada at the World Finals. It is every junior handlers dream to win the Nationals. This year I had won Best Overall showing Brodie, Am/Can Ch. XO's Invincible. There was 14 competitors all across Canada that were the top in their province/zone. It was an incredible win!!! I never thought I would win Nationals showing my own Pharaoh Hound- it just doesn't happen! We were required to switch breeds at this competition as well, a Shetland Sheepdog was my switch breed. We were also required to answer questions about dog shows and canine anatomy. Thank you judges, Graeme Burdon, Lori-Ann Fischer, Pat Blenkey & Irene Latchford for this unforgettable win!

Now it is off to Crufts in 2010. What a wonderful way to end a Junior Handling career- representing your country at the World Junior Finals.
* None of this would be possible without the guidance and mentorship of Cheryl Pike, MacLaren Shelties (http://www.maclarenshelties.com/). Thank you Cheryl for everything.

Cape Breton

My mom and I flew out to Saint John, New Brunswick last Thursday and stayed with our good friends, the Kearleys. We left for our 6 hour drive early Friday morning to Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.

Sushi (BPISS MBPIG Ch. Osiris Making Headlines) won Best Puppy In Group all 4 shows. Thank you to judges, Paula & Roger Hartinger, Maida Puterman & Jackie Rusby. Despite Sushi not feeling well, she took the flight and everything else quite well! Sushi was handled by myself and by Terri-Lee Foley Cossar.

I had shown in Junior Handling both days. First day I showed a Shetland Sheepdog handled by Todd & Allison Foley named Alex (MBIS Am/Can Ch. Shelhaven Alaris) and the second day I showed an English Setter named Jagger (Am/Can Ch. Wingset's Jumpin' Jack Flash) owned by Tory Harvey! I had such a great time showing both dogs. I was also able to show Jagger in the breed and group on the last day. He is such a great dog!

We had such a great time in Nova Scotia. Met many new people and made many new friendships. Thanks so much to Terri Lee, for taking Sushi in the ring! She did a fabulous job as always.

Im sure I will be back soon. It is just to beautiful.

We are moving!!

Well we are finally moving to a bigger property! Our family had been wanting to move for quite some time now, and we are so glad to be moving this week.

We are moving to the beautiful countryside of Uxbridge, Ontario on 25 acres of land. About an hour from downtown Toronto, and very close to the GTA.

Today, July 26th, under judge Denys Janssen (South Am.), Harlow won a GROUP 1st!!!! She also automatically won Best Puppy In Group! Way to go Miss Harlow.

Thank you to handler, Terri Lee Foley-Cossar for guiding Harlow to these wins.

Kars Kennel Club

I travelled with friends Cheryl Pike and Kim Wendling to the Kars show this past weekend. The weather was awful, and the show grounds were covered in puddles and mud. It wasn't too hot and there was always wind. Sushi (BPISS MBPIG Ch. Osiris Making Headlines) was just not liking the conditions. However, I am proud of her and she was a trooper.

On July 19th, I had Sushi entered in the Capital Area Sighthound Association Specialty Show. We showed in Sweepstakes and had won our class under Judge Barbara Silverstone (USA). Later, we then showed in the Specialty. I am proud to say that Sushi is now a Best Puppy In Specialty Show winner!! Judge for the Specialty was Thora Brown (CAN). I am so thrilled.

In the All-breeds show, under judge Dr. Robert Smith (USA), Sushi had won another Best Puppy In Group!! I received many lovely comments from Dr. Smith. He seemed to have just loved her.

I was also able to show in Junior Handling showing a beautiful male Shetland Sheepdog, Jon-Jon (Am/Can Ch. Barwoods Jana JFK). We placed 1st in Senior Open, but unfortunately did not win BJH.

Bobcaygeon Kennel Club shows

Sushi (Osiris Making Headlines) and Lola (Osiris She's A Showgirl) were entered in the Bobcaygeon Kennel Club dogs show just for one day. This was their first indoor show and weren't too sure about it, but slowly came around and started to enjoy themselves. Under judge Richard Meen (CAN), Sushi won Best of Breed over Lola for 1 more point towards her CKC Championship. She is now sitting on 6 points out of 10.
In the afternoon, I showed Brodie (Am/Can Ch. XO's Invincible) in Junior Handling. After winning my tough class, I then went on to winning Best Overall Junior Handler!

Spice Girls debut!

This past weekend, our 3 "spice girls" debuted their show careers.

At the Monarch Kennel Club, Sushi (Osiris Making Headlines) won over Lola (Osiris She's A Showgirl) all three days for 3 points towards her Canadian Championship. This was a wonderful learning experience for the girls. To top off the weekend, on the last day Sushi won Best In Sweepstakes winning almost $120.00! Later on in the afternoon under judge Paula Hartinger (USA) Sushi placed Group 3rd in a highly competitive Hound group.

I had received so many wonderful comments all weekend from judges, breeders and fellow handlers. It was wonderful to hear. Thank you to all.

Out in the Maritimes, Harlow (Osiris Saturday Night Diva) debuted in P.E.I. at the Abegweit Kennel Club. She had 4 shows in 2 days. At the end of the weekend Harlow had picked up 3 Best Puppy In Groups under judges Tony Johnson (Aus), David Strachan (Aus), and Davida Brown (NZ). To end the weekend, Harlow won Best Puppy in Show! Thank you to judge Tony Johnson for this much deserving win.
